List of Terminologies used in SEO

  • Meta Title – It is the title of your page or post that appears in the google search results.

  • Meta Description – It is the description of your page that appears in the search results.
  • SEO friendly URL structure – SEO friendly URLs means that any of your website URL should not contain anything other than alphabets and (-) slashes.
What is a correct type of URL for SEO
  • No index – It is a kind of that that is used when you want a page to be neglected when crawled by google search bots and should not appear in the search result.
  • No follow – This is basically a link that you put on a page or post which you don’t want to pass your credibility or reputation. eg. if you are advertising on your website you will probably give them a no-follow link as you are not credible for them. 
  • Do follow – It is a link that you provide to pass on your credibility to 
  • Backlinks – These are the external websites that are linked with your website.
  • 404 page –  This is an additional page we create to stick our website in a frame i.e All the wrong URLs will land on this page.

  • Redirection – It is used to redirect a page to another. eg someone opens your website in HTTP or https it will always be opened in https (if you have SSL integration)
  • Anchor Text – This is a type of hyperlink. This is used to direct google that we are targeting this keyword to a specific page that you are linking with your text.
  • Keyword Ranking – It is the ranking on the google search engine where your website is ranking for that specific keyword.
  • Onsite/Onpage – As the name suggests that everything that is on the website or within your website is considered under the category of the on-page. 
  • Offsite/Offpage – Same as the name suggest anything that has a connection with your website from outside your domain.
  • Heading Tags – These are basically of 6 types (h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6). These are the heading and the subheading that divide your content neatly. This describes that what is a specific paragraph is all about.

  • Internal Linking – Same as the name links which are within your website that are targeting your website only. not an outside link
  • External linking – As the name suggests that all the links on your website that are targeting other domains.
  • Google Webmaster/console – This is Google’s own tool which is used to analyze errors of your website. It also shows the performance of your website. You can also index your website so that it will appear on the search result. Google also gives you recommendations to solve the errors of your website specifically. There are a bunch of tasks that you can perform there.
  • Google Analytics – This is a Google-owned app as well as the website. This tool will give you a ton of tasks to analyze your website visitor even in real-time. It will tell you how many users came to your website, what country they came from and much more.
  • Page Speed –  This is the speed of your website online. There are various websites to check. But I will recommend you to use Google Page Insights. It will give you all the recommendations for both mobile and desktop versions.
  • Robots.txt – It is a file to block specific URLs from your page. It will still be visible but will be ignored by search crawlers. Read how to create robots.txt file.
  • Caching – This is a technique to submit your website to Google to show the updated version of your website and consider the changes you have made to it. This can be done in the Google Search Console
  • Indexing – It is pretty much similar to caching but this is to be done to make your website visible on Google.
  • Alt Text – These are the alternate text that you write with your image title. This is done if your image is broken it will guide your audience that what can be this image is about.
  • Geo Tags – this is a new feature that the Google webmaster has to include to choose your targeted location. Earlier you have to put an HTML tag for it.
How to specify your country with GEO tags
  • Keyword stuffing/density –  It is the number of times your targeted keyword appeared on the page.
  • Crawlers – Crawlers are the type of spider that scan your website. There are basically 2 types of crawler you should know. Google Mobile Bot and Google Desktop Bot.
